Abaete
New York based designer Laura Poretzky launched her collection of swimwear and ready-to-wear in 2004 under the name Abaete (pronounced ah-BYE-ah-tay), which is a family name which loosely translates to “person of virtue”. Her collection is strongly influenced by her multicultural upbringing, raised between Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and New York.
Abaete received rave reviews at its first Olympus fashion week for its Spring 2006 collection, and gained further mainstream recognition for a design collaboration with Payless shoes in the same season.
Abaete’s use of bold colors and simplistic but sensual and body-hugging shapes has garnered a number of celebrity fans, such as Jessica Simpson, who love her signature figure flattering color-block sheath dress. |
